Xi'an International Studies University (XISU), located in the ancient capital of Xi’an, was the first institution of higher learning in Northwest China to offer Chinese language programs for international students, admitting its first cohort in 1979. Over the years, we have educated more than 20,000 students from 45 countries and regions. Currently, XISU offers a comprehensive range of academic programs spanning from bachelor's to doctoral degrees, as well as non-degree programs including Chinese language courses, short-term exchange programs, and customized courses tailored to the Belt and Road Initiative. Leveraging our strengths in multilingual education, we nurture cross-cultural ambassadors with global perspectives, blending rich historical heritage with modern educational approaches. Admission Requirements

1.Applicants shall be non-Chinese citizens holding a valid passport and possess qualifications equivalent to a Chinese senior high school diploma or above.

2.Applicants, who have immigrated from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan and acquired foreign nationality, or applicants whose parent(s) is/are Chinese citizen(s) residing abroad and who have held foreign nationality at birth, must comply with the requirements of MEEC Notice [2020] No. 12. (Note: [2020] No. 12 Official Notice from the Ministry of Education Regarding Standardizing the Acceptance of International Students by Higher Education Institutions)

3.Applicants for programs taught in Chinese are required to achieve a minimum score of 180 on the HSK Level 4 test, or complete one year of Chinese language study at our university and pass the relevant examinations. Certain programs require HSK Level 5 with a minimum score of 180.Applicants from non-English-speaking countries applying for English-taught programs must provide one of the following English proficiency certificates:IELTS: 6.0 or aboveTOEFL: 85 or aboveCambridge English: B2 level or above

4.Applicants under the age of 18 must provide a Guardian Guarantee Letter. If the applicant's parents are not residing in China, the guardian must be a foreign or Chinese citizen residing permanently in China and authorized by the applicant's parents.

Notes

5.Applicants whose Chinese language proficiency does not meet the program requirements may apply for the university's “1+4” Foundation Program. After completing the foundation program, students may enter undergraduate study upon passing the entrance assessment and meeting the corresponding HSK requirements.In accordance with regulations of the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China, all international students applying for undergraduate degree programs in China are required to take the CSCA (China Scholastic Competency Assessment) Chinese and Mathematics tests and submit valid score reports. * Applicants for Chinese Language programs who possess a valid HSK Level 4 certificate may be exempt from the Chinese test.

Application Materials

2.Senior High School Diploma and Complete Academic Transcripts

Applicants must submit scanned copies of the original documents. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.Current graduating students should provide a Certificate of Expected Graduation when applying (the expected graduation date must be before August 31 of the admission year). The original diploma must be submitted upon registration.

3.Applicants are required to submit score reports for the Chinese and Mathematics tests of the CSCA.Applicants for Chinese Language programs are exempt from the Chinese test but must provide proof of HSK Level 4 proficiency.

4.Language Proficiency Certificate

* For Chinese-taught programs:A copy of a HSK certificate (valid within two years). (HSK requirements vary by program; please refer to the program catalog in the admission brochure.)

* For English-taught programs:One of the following certificates is required:IELTS: 6.0 or aboveTOEFL: 85 or aboveCambridge English: B2 level or above

* Exemptions from English proficiency requirements:

1)Applicants whose native or official language is English

2)Applicants holding other equivalent English proficiency certificates recognized by XISU

5.Personal Statement (500–800 words)Applicants for Chinese-taught programs must write the Personal Statement in Chinese.

6.A copy of the passportIncluding the personal information page and all pages containing Chinese visas.

(1)Pages showing entry and exit stamps for travel to and from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan during the past four years (up to April 30 of the admission year)

8.Physical Examination Report issued within the past six months

Applicants shall complete all examination items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form and provide detailed blood test reports. The form will be considered invalid if any required items are missing; or if the applicant's photo is not attached or not stamped with the official seal across the photo; or if the form does not bear the signature and official seal of the physician and hospital.

9.Applicants shall submit a No Criminal Record certificate. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized Chinese or English translations.

Application Procedure

1.Online Application

Please log in to the International Student Online Application System of XISU (http://xisu.chiwest.cn/) to register and complete the application form and upload the required documents:料。

* Applicants for scholarship programs may also be required to submit applications through the relevant scholarship application websites. Please refer to the corresponding Scholarship Application Guidelines for detailed information.

2.Entrance Assessment (Interview or Written Test)

Applicants who receive an assessment notification are required to attend the interview or written test on time. Specific arrangements will be sent by email. Please ensure that the email address provided is accurate and valid.

3.Check Application Status Online

Applicants may track the progress and status of their application through the registered account on the university application system or by checking their email regularly.

4.Admission and Registration

Admission results can be viewed through the International Student Online Application System of XISU. Admitted students shall register at the university strictly according to the date specified in the Admission Notice. Original graduation certificates will be verified during registration. Applicants who fail to obtain the required certificates will have their admission revoked.
