Safety and Health Tips for International Students


I. Climate and Health Management

Xi'an has a temperate continental monsoon climate with four distinct seasons. Temperatures can vary greatly in spring and autumn, while summers are hot and winters are cold and dry.

- Pay attention to weather changes and dress appropriately.

- Maintain good dietary hygiene and a regular daily routine.

- Stay hydrated during dry seasons and use skincare products if needed.

- If you feel unwell, please see a doctor promptly or contact the university clinic.

II. Personal and Public Safety

Xi'an is a very safe city, but you are still advised to take the following precautions:

- Avoid going out alone late at night, especially in unfamiliar or isolated areas.

- Take care of your personal belongings when going out and avoid overly crowded places.

- Respect local cultural customs and maintain appropriate behavior in public places.

III. Property and Mobile Payment Safety

- It is not recommended to carry large amounts of cash or valuable items.

- Mobile payment is very convenient in China. You may use services such as WeChat Pay and Alipay.

- Keep your bank cards, payment passwords, and personal information secure, and do not disclose them to others.

IV. Transportation Safety and Vehicle Management

- Obey traffic rules. Do not run red lights or cross through traffic.

- Wear a helmet when riding an electric bike or bicycle.

- If you purchase an electric bike or motorcycle, you must register it with the public security authorities in accordance with regulations.

- When taking a taxi or ride-hailing service, you may note the license plate number or request an electronic receipt to help locate lost items if necessary.

V. Accommodation and Fire Safety

- Read the instructions carefully when using electrical appliances and avoid overloading power outlets.

- Turn off the power before leaving your dormitory, and do not use high-wattage appliances.

- Charging electric vehicles in dormitories or corridors is strictly prohibited, as it poses a serious fire risk.

- Ensure indoor ventilation and do not store flammable or explosive materials.

VI. Internet and Telecom Fraud Prevention

If you receive any suspicious phone calls, text messages, or requests for money transfers, stay calm, do not disclose any personal information, do not make any transfers, and contact your family or your counselor promptly.

VII. Laws and Prohibited Activities

China enforces strict penalties for illegal activities. Please be sure to comply with all laws and regulations:

- Any drug-related activities are illegal, including marijuana.

- Gambling, violence, and illegal gatherings are strictly prohibited.

- Comply with university regulations regarding dormitories, classrooms, and campus management.
